PERSONNEL CABINET LAUNCHES NEW CAREER OPPORTUNITIES SYSTEM New On-Line System Makes Searching and Applying for State Jobs Easier
The Personnel Cabinet has launched a new on-line employment system, Career Opportunities (COS). This new system benefits applicants, Commonwealth agencies, and the Personnel Cabinet in the following ways:
COS will allow Applicants to:
∙ Create, View and Update their employment application and personal information on-line ∙ Apply for vacant positions via the Internet 24/7 eliminating the need to travel to Frankfort ∙ Electronically search for job vacancies and be notified by email of vacancies for which they may want to apply
COS will allow Agencies to:
∙ Develop job postings which target specific knowledge, skills, and abilities they are looking for in an applicant ∙ Receive registers consisting of qualified, interested applicants ∙ View applicant’s information on-line ∙ Conduct electronic searches of applicant information for desired/required skills, education, and experience ∙ Have on-line approval functionality for the hiring process
COS will allow the Personnel Cabinet to:
∙ Work closely with the hiring agencies to develop job postings which target specific knowledge, skills, and abilities that agencies are looking for in a candidate ∙ Continue to qualify candidates for job classifications ∙ Have the ability to conduct an electronic search of candidate information based on desired/required skills, education, and experience to produce a better register of candidates for the requesting agency ∙ Have expanded reporting ability

The Kentucky Department of Corrections is seeking applicants for the following positions:
Correctional Officer – Beginning Salary: $22,595.04. Duties: Stands watch in corridors of buildings, towers, and other security posts. Takes required action during emergencies to prevent escapes and suppress disorders. Oversees inmates/patients inside and outside the institution. Takes periodic counts of inmates/patients. Searches inmates/patient’s person, mail and quarters for contraband. Makes written reports on violations on institutional rules. Takes proper use of weapons. Transports inmates/patients. Minimum Requirements: High school graduate or GED. Must be twenty-one years of age.
Probation & Parole Officer - Beginning Salary: $28,191.36. Duties: Supervises and counsels all assigned probationers, parolees and other designated clientele. Interviews client to gather information. Maintains dialogue with client. Investigates and verifies information. Advises client of legal rights. Formulates, develops and monitors plan of supervision for client. Acts as liaison between client and legal and enforcement authorities. Makes contacts, referrals and arrangements for client’s housing, employment, education, etc. Prepares and maintains detailed client records and reports. Provides testimony and evidence in hearings or trials concerning violation of terms of probation or parole. When necessary, arrests and/or transports violators to proper authority. Prepares all necessary documentation requested by courts, central office, or Parole Board for hearings or legal purposes. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree. Must be twenty-one years of age.

The Department of Corrections is actively involved in the recruitment and promotion of minorities and is committed to building a more diversified work force that will best represent all people, regardless of race or gender. The Department has worked diligently to promote job fairs throughout the state with emphasis on minority hiring. As a result of this endeavor, over 300 new employees were hired in 2005, with the majority being African-American. These series of job fairs proved to be a true testament that carefully planned recruitment efforts can be successful. For the first time in history, the Department achieved a record of 11% African-American female workforce, with total minority hiring averaging 16.6% in 2005.

The Kentucky Partnership for Families and Children, Inc. (KPFC) is a nonprofit organization that works to improve the quality of life for children, youth, and young adults facing emotional, social, and behavioral challenges and to encourage the healthy functioning of their families. KPFC is currently looking to fill two full time positions in their Frankfort office.
1. Substance Abuse Family Liaison will be the parent of a teenager or young adult that has experienced the challenges of mental health and/or substance use issues. The Substance Abuse Family Liaison will be responsible for:
¶ Building and/or expanding parent networks that serve parents that have children with co-occurring issues (mental health disabilities and substance use issues),
¶ Help parents learn how to navigate the systems that serve youth with co-occurring disorders,
¶ Providing a “parent voice” on committees as the parent of a son/daughter that has dealt with, or is dealing with, co-occurring issues, and
¶ Event/conference planning.
¶ Educational requirements: Bachelors degree preferred but not necessary based on parenting experiences.
2. Program Coordinator will be:
¶ Responsible for maintaining the parent resource line,
¶ Publishing KPFC’s quarterly newsletter and coordinating KPFC’s other public relations/awareness activities,
¶ Coordinating and leading all Youth Council activities,
¶ Hosting exhibit booths at conferences, and
¶ Assisting the Executive Director in representing KPFC.
¶ Educational requirements: Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or related field required.
Requirements for both positions:
Strong computer skills, good written and verbal, communication skills, team player attitude, must be organized and detail-oriented, comfortable speaking in front of small groups, and ability to travel within the state.
Salary: Salary based on skills and prior experience

Youthbuild Louisville is Accepting Applications |

YouthBuild Louisville, a non-profit agency in Metro Louisville, is currently accepting applications through July 30 for the year long program which will begin in Mid-August. Participants are trained with career skills in conservation, carpentry, wood working and landscaping. Applicants must be between the ages of 16-24, who need their GED or High School Diploma and have a desire to enter college, job placement or both at the program’s end. Students split their time between the classroom and construction and environmental projects. In addition to job skills and on-the-job training, YBL students participate in academic development that includes GED preparation, basic computer skills, and life skills programs and activities. The students completing the program receive a Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate. The year long program is free for qualifying students and the students receive regular performance incentives, $100 per week for their time in the education classroom and then $6-9 dollars per hour when they are on a worksite. After completing a 30-day trial, the participants may join the Americorps Educational Award program which makes them eligible for $1,800 in educational grants for tuition to any accredited college or trade school. The educational grants may be used up to seven years after their completion of the YBL program. Space is limited so please act now.
