Governor's Minority Management Trainee Program

History:

The Governor's Minority Management Trainee Program (GMMTP) was created by an Executive Order in August 1995.  It is the first such program of its kind in the nation.  This recruitment and professional development tool was established to increase the representation of minority mangers in state government.  This program offers an experience that enables participants to cultivate the skills needed to serve Kentucky's citizens in an effective and responsive manner.  Participants receive in-depth, practical training through classroom instruction, on-the-job experiences, and special projects.

Mission:

To develop highly trained, experienced and qualified minority candidates to help meet the future challenging management needs of state government.

Goals:

• To be a nationally recognized program that serves as the premier model for promoting diversity of management through a progressive leadership growth and development program.

• To achieve full support and participation by all eligible agencies resulting in strong minority representation in all levels of management throughout state government.

• To inspire trainees to value and honor the privilege of participating in the program.

Eligibility:

Currently, to be eligible to apply for the program, an applicant must meet the following criteria:

• Be an ethnic minority
• Have one (1) year of state government service
• Qualify for a grade 10 or higher job classification
• Aspire to be a manager and demonstrate exceptional management potential
