More minorities now serving in non-merit, director and above positions

Frankfort, KY:   Governor Ernie Fletcher announced today more minorities are now serving in upper-level state government positions compared to the same time frame in the previous administration.  “These are highly qualified individuals who have really showcased their talents,” stated Governor Fletcher.

As of April 16, 2004, 47 minorities are employed in positions of director or above.   Compared to April 16, 1996, when Governor Paul Patton had been in office for the same amount of time as Governor Fletcher is now, that is a total of 8 more minorities in higher level positions.  As of that time, there were only 39 minorities in director or above positions.
 
The statistics prove Governor Fletcher’s determination to empower minorities in state government.  “I am committed to hiring the best, brightest, most capable people to help me lead this Commonwealth,” stated Governor Fletcher.

Fletcher’s Director for Minority Empowerment, applauds the Governor’s dedication.  “The Governor has proved he is passionate about ensuring that every qualified Kentuckian has an equal chance of success,” stated Turner.  “Together, I strongly believe we will be able to make a positive difference for the minority communities in Kentucky.”
